Scanning: In order to explore what is happening for our students at Sommerville, I felt it was important to look at current teaching practice that exists in our school and how confident teachers felt they were at delivering an integrated curriculum to their learners.
Survey Outline: I emailed out a survey to my colleagues and explained I was looking into how an integrated curriculum is delivered within a specialist school setting to boost student engagement. I was keen to find out what this currently looked like at Sommerville and to explore all the ways that we can weave together the different curriculum areas to make learning accessible for our neurodiverse students.
Aim: To obtain base-line data by sending out a school-wide survey to all teaching staff and gain valuable insights on: 1. Current practice and classroom/programme delivery 2. Confidence levels of teachers 3. Barriers/Gaps
Question 1: What curriculum areas do you currently merge together when planning for your classroom program? i.e. Writing and Drama; Maths and Dance; Science and Visual Arts. Teachers were asked to give written examples of which curriculum areas they integrate.
Question 2: How confident do you feel to merge and teach curriculum areas? e.g. Maths & Dance - Teaching position & orientation (left, right, backwards, forwards, turn) through a dance sequence. I asked teachers to rate themselves on a scale of 0-10 0 = not confident 10 = very confident
Question 3:
What are some of the limitations/barriers you find in planning with an integrated approach?
